100 Years of Kinmel Camp: A Fascinating Journey through History
For the past century, Kinmel Camp has stood as a remarkable testament to the ever-evolving nature of human history. From its humble beginnings as a military training ground during World War I, to its transformation into a symbol of resilience and progress, this camp has witnessed it all.
Unveiling the Origins
Established in 1914, as the Great War loomed over Europe, Kinmel Camp served as a haven for soldiers preparing for the battles ahead. Its strategic location in North Wales made it an ideal training ground for the British Army, drawing soldiers from across the nation.
What started as a modest collection of tents and temporary structures soon blossomed into a fully-functional camp. With each passing year, the camp expanded to accommodate the growing number of troops, eventually becoming a sprawling home for thousands.

This book has taken me many years of researching and collating. Traveling here there and everywhere to get a story. I hope that I have done those who served and continue to serve at Kinmel Park Camp something special to read. The author of the story of Kinmel Park Military Training Camp 1914-18 (Robert H. Griffiths) stated, his book was a labour of love. I can concur with his sentiments entirely. I to have tried my utmost to find names of individuals who had a story to be told. Tears were shed, believe me. Post Script: I truly hope that one day the Union, Canadian and Welsh flags be raised above the graves a St. Margaret’s Church in Bodelwyddan as a permanent tribute to those brave men and women who served and died at Kinmel Park Camp over the past 100 years.
