How I Rode Around The World On A Motorcycle Solo And What I Learned Along The Way
Have you ever dreamt of embarking on an epic adventure, leaving everything behind and venturing into the unknown? Imagine riding a motorcycle through breathtaking landscapes, experiencing diverse cultures, and discovering your own limits. That's exactly what I did when I decided to ride around the world on my trusty two-wheeled companion, and it was a life-changing experience that taught me invaluable lessons.
The Beginning of the Journey
It all started with a simple idea - to explore the world on my motorcycle. With meticulous planning, I charted a route that would take me through different continents, countries, and terrains. From the bustling streets of Tokyo to the rugged mountains of Peru, I was determined to embrace the beauty and challenges of each destination.
The first leg of my journey took me from my hometown to Alaska, crossing vast stretches of land and encountering wild landscapes along the way. It was a test of endurance, as I pushed myself to overcome fatigue, harsh weather conditions, and the occasional breakdown. And yet, with every hurdle, I grew stronger and more resilient, ready to face whatever lay ahead.

Embracing Cultural Diversity
One of the most remarkable aspects of my journey was the opportunity to immerse myself in different cultures. From sampling local delicacies in Vietnam to participating in traditional rituals in India, each encounter left an indelible mark on my soul. The connections I formed with people from all walks of life taught me the true meaning of empathy, kindness, and understanding.
Traveling alone allowed me to interact with locals on a deeper level, as I was not confined by the limitations of a group. This freedom allowed me to forge lasting friendships, build bridges between cultures, and gain a profound appreciation for the richness and diversity of our world.
Facing Fear and Overcoming Challenges
Undertaking such a journey inevitably came with its fair share of fears and challenges. From navigating through unknown territories to dealing with language barriers, every day brought its own set of obstacles. However, it taught me the importance of perseverance and the immense satisfaction that comes from conquering one's fears.
There were moments when fear threatened to overpower me, especially when facing treacherous roads or unfamiliar customs. But as I hurdled over each challenge, an overwhelming sense of accomplishment washed over me. I realized that it's often the fear of the unknown that limits us, and by embracing it head-on, we can unlock our true potential.
Lessons Learned and Personal Transformation
The journey around the world on my motorcycle not only introduced me to new landscapes and cultures but also transformed me as an individual. I acquired practical skills such as bike maintenance and navigation, but the most significant lessons were of a more profound nature.
I learned the importance of living in the present moment, cherishing every experience, and valuing the connections we make with others. The trip stripped away the external comforts and distractions of everyday life, allowing me to discover the essence of my being. It forced me to confront my own limitations, break free from societal expectations, and embrace the extraordinary.
Through self-reflection and the lessons learned during my journey, I realized that the boundaries we perceive are often self-imposed. By breaking free from these limits, we can open ourselves up to a world full of endless possibilities.
Roads That Lead Home
When my adventure finally came to an end, and I rode back into my hometown after thousands of miles, I knew I had transformed irrevocably. The journey had not only given me a new perspective on life but also shaped my understanding of the world and my place in it.
As I reflect on my solo motorcycle adventure around the world, I am grateful for the experiences, the people I met along the way, and the person I have become. If there's one thing I learned above all else, it's that stepping outside of our comfort zone leads to growth and new horizons.
So, take a leap of faith, embark on your own journey, and let the open road be your guide. Who knows what awaits you on the other side of the world?

Your family. Your friends. Your job. Your language. Your life, as you know it. Imagine you leave all of this behind, and just go on a ride around the world. 18 months, 50 countries, 90.000 kilometers of adventure.
In her travelogue, Lea Rieck tells a touching story of falling and getting up again, of courage and serenity, faith in oneself and other people, empathy, hope and determination. About setting out - but not to learn to fear the world, but to find adventure, friendship and love.
The moment that changes everything can come at any time. For Lea Rieck, it's a normal Monday morning in the office when she sees a colleague watering a plant with Evian mineral water. She quits her job, leaves her comfort zone and sets off on a trip around the world.
Just her motorcycle Cleo and her, all alone.
But what do you do when there's a military coup right in front of your window? If your lover turns out to be a Russian sniper? Or if you burn your eyes in the highest altitude desert of the world? You learn your lesson and move on.
The journey takes Lea past 8,000-meter-high mountains in Pakistan, through temples in India, to the safe shores of Australia, into the driest desert in the world in Chile and Bolivia - and in the end back to Germany. Breathlessly, she lets her intuition and instincts guide her, experiences the highs and lows of traveling alone, begins to see the world from a different angle, and discovers life in all its different facets and forms.
"'Dwell in the land and you shall be fed.' - that is out of the question for Lea Rieck. The more adventurous, the better. The worst journeys, she says, are the best." Hans Magnus Enzensberger
