Kwun Yum (Guan Yin) (觀音) is the epitome of a goddess. Her following is one of pure devotion. She is trusted and loved by both men and women. She is a symbol of purity with compassion and forgiveness for every one of her devotees. She is the “hearer of cries”. Kwun Yum will hear any anguish or pleas for help from humanity.

Any distress will receive a positive response to find a path to salvation, to peace and happiness. She will help couples to have children and pregnant women to have sons. She is primarily worshipped by women as she provides a loving source of help in times of need, especially for domestic matters regarding children. She is a mother figure who protects women, sailors, farmers, merchants, craftsmen, travellers and those under criminal prosecution. Kwun Yum will mediate daily or as often as it takes to resolve a devotee’s concerns. She is a saviour, a comforter to the sick and the unfortunate. Kwun Yum is the Goddess of Mercy.

The Goddess of Mercy in Popular Chinese Religion is always portrayed as a peaceful and righteous woman often wearing a white robe. She will be seen sitting on a lotus flower and more often than not holding a vase containing the nectar of compassion and wisdom.
